Computers, Webservices & FOSS
I host my own headless linux-based server with a bunch of FOSS (Free Open Source Software) services: Immich, Jellyfin, Caddy, and even this website!
I think supporting FOSS software is important and I also donate to some projects that I think are going in the right direction.
At home my daily driver is a PC running standard Fedora Linux and I am amazed by what linux has managed to achieve in a relatively small amount of time in terms of user experience.
I enjoy tinkering not only with the software aspect of things but also the hardware as I have built many computers now, including my server that hosts 6 hard drives for a total of more than 24TBs of storage.
Home Automation & Domotics
Following that line of thought I am also very invested in home automation, whether it is via wi-fi, zigbee or the new Matter standard (though I will say I am a bit disappointed by the stability of matter via Thread).
I think the hollywoodian vision of the home of the future where everything is automated and the different components of different brands interact with each other seamlessly is still just out of reach, but not for long.
Gaming
As someone who majored in computer science it should be no surprise that I also enjoy a fair bit of gaming!
Back when I was in secondary school I used to write the gaming & technology segment of the school newspaper and be called to classrooms to plug in projectors.
I play a variety of different genres from competitive shooters to cooperative strategy games but I also like to relax with some slower games like Professor Layton or Animal Crossing.
Music
Music is also a real passion for me as I have been playing the piano since I was 7. I have passed the 6th grade practicals & theory of the UK’s music exam board (ABRSM).
I mostly spend my time playing songs that I have heard in passing, often from video games.
I was also in the chorus of my secondary school when I was younger and still enjoy singing whether in the shower or out.
